Summer Career Camp

School may be out for summer, but at Magnify, we are using this time to help students work on their future. Our summer Career Camp starts this week and goes all summer long. It promises to be an exciting and informative experience for students with disabilities. The program offers a range of camps to cater to different career interests, allowing participants to delve deep into their passions and learn about the various industries that would be a good fit for them. Simultaneously, our team will work with the participants to discover their unique abilities that might benefit an employer.

One of the camps offered is focused on the retail and entertainment industry at the Lake Square Mall. Here, participants will have the opportunity to gain knowledge in customer service, sales, product knowledge, marketing, and more. They will also learn about the workings of the entertainment industry by discovering how movies are selected and managed and how tickets are sold.

Another of the camps focuses on the healthcare industry and healthcare management held at South Lake Hospital. Students can explore a wide range of careers in healthcare. Participants can observe the daily operations of a hospital and learn about the different roles each staff member plays in providing care to patients.

The hospitality and hotel operations camp, hosted at Loews Universal Hotels, offers participants the chance to go behind the scenes in the hotel industry and understand how the various departments work together to create a positive guest experience. Students will be able to develop skills in customer service, housekeeping, front desk operations, and event planning.

Finally, the recreation, arts and transportation camp is located in downtown Kissimmee. This camp provides opportunities for participants to explore diverse career fields, such as art, music, culinary arts, massage therapy, cosmetology, and transportation. Participants will meet and learn from small business owners to broaden their understanding of the challenges and rewards of owning and operating a small business. At this Career Camp, students will have a unique opportunity to gain valuable insights into the world of customized employment, where the job duties, work schedule, and work environment are tailored to match the specific strengths, interests, and needs of an individual with a disability.

Moreover, Career Camp students are given an exclusive chance to visit critical institutions like City Hall and Toho Water. They can observe firsthand how the community and small businesses work together seamlessly to create a thriving ecosystem and help each other grow and succeed.

Visiting these institutions provides Career Camp students with essential lessons on civic engagement and public service, helping to instill a sense of responsibility and leadership that can serve them well in their future careers. Overall, Career Camp offers students a comprehensive learning experience that not only prepares them for the workforce but also inspires them to become active and engaged members of their community.

In addition to learning about their chosen career paths, students at Career Camp will also develop crucial job-readiness skills such as communication, teamwork, time management, and leadership. They will gain self-advocacy tools essential for succeeding in the workplace and building long-lasting relationships with potential employers and mentors. With so much to learn and explore, Career Camp is an excellent opportunity for students to gain a head start on their careers.
