Project SEARCH

Congratulations to this year’s Project SEARCH graduates!

Project SEARCH

Project SEARCH is an innovative program designed to help young adults with disabilities transition from school to meaningful employment.

The core of Project SEARCH is its intensive, one-year school-to-work transition program. Here’s a snapshot of how it works:

Internships

Participants engage in multiple unpaid internships within a host business or organization. These internships are structured to provide real-world job experiences and help interns develop the skills needed for competitive employment.

Classroom Instruction

Alongside their internships, participants receive classroom-based training that focuses on job readiness skills. This includes resume writing, interview techniques, and workplace etiquette.

Skills Development

The program emphasizes soft skills such as communication, problem-solving, and teamwork, which are crucial for job success. It also focuses on specific job skills tailored to the internships and participants' career goals.

Job Coaching

Dedicated job coaches provide ongoing support to both participants and their employers. This support includes on-the-job training, assistance navigating workplace challenges, and ensuring the work environment is accommodating.

Family and Community Involvement

The program actively involves families and community partners to build a supportive network around each participant. This holistic approach ensures that all stakeholders are aligned to help the individual succeed.

Impact and Outcomes

Project SEARCH has demonstrated significant success in improving employment outcomes for its participants. Many individuals who complete the program secure competitive employment, and those who are employed often find jobs that offer career growth and personal satisfaction.

The program also fosters greater independence among participants, enhances their self-esteem, and builds a sense of belonging and purpose. By partnering with businesses and organizations, Project SEARCH not only helps individuals with disabilities but also raises awareness and promotes inclusivity in the workplace.
